West delivered the heroics Wednesday night

MIAMI – The FIU baseball team delivered a thrilling walk-off victory over crosstown rival Miami, earning a 5-4 win in 10 innings Wednesday night at FIU Baseball Stadium.

The win marks FIU's second straight triumph over the Hurricanes this season and their third in the last four matchups. It also represents the Panthers' first home victory over Miami since March 7, 2018.

"What a team win tonight—it was ten straight innings of picking each other up and believing the whole time," said head coach Rich Witten. "All wins feel sweet, but it was especially rewarding to see the guys trust one another and step up when it mattered most."

With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 10th, Brylan West played the hero, delivering a game-winning RBI single off the third baseman for his first career walk-off hit. The win improves FIU's record to 23-18 on the season.

The Panthers came out hot, plating three runs in the first inning on a pair of RBI hits. After West reached with a single and Kishon Frett was hit by a pitch for the 21st time this season, Javier Crespo drove in the opening run with a single to center. Two batters later, Andrew Ildefonso ripped a line drive to left field, scoring two more to make it 3-0.

Miami (24-18) responded in the fifth with three runs of its own—one on a single, another on a fielder's choice, and the third on a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

FIU reclaimed the lead in the sixth. With two outs, Cole Cleveland smashed a triple to right, scoring Brendan Roney and putting the Panthers ahead 4-3.

The Hurricanes tied it again in the ninth with a solo home run before the Panthers secured their fourth walk-off win of the year in the bottom of the 10th.

On the mound, Jarek Woodward made his third start of the year, tossing two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Kevin Martin followed with a shutout third before Julian Mlodzinski allowed three earned runs in the fifth. Tristan Dietrich turned in a career-best performance, tossing three hitless innings with two strikeouts. Juan Villarreal worked the eighth and ninth, surrendering the game-tying homer but also striking out two. Bryce Turner earned his first career win, pitching a clean 10th.

Offensively, FIU racked up 10 hits, with West leading the charge with a three-hit night, extending his on-base streak to 17 games and notching his 17th multi-hit effort of the season. Roney added two hits and reached base three times, while Cleveland, Crespo, Frett, Ildefonso, and Kareh Valentin each chipped in with a hit.
